With the film industry developing at a rapid pace, it is not surprising
that new film institutes are being established to meet the growing
demand. The Chennai-based SRM University has announced that it would
set up a film institute next year, which would be built on a Rs.
10-crore budget. This was announced by the SRM University Chairman
T. R Pachchmuthu, at the annual 3-day cultural show conducted by
the college at its premises in Kattankulathur near Chennai.
The university has also instituted the Chevalier Sivaji award, which
would be given away to students every year henceforth, in collaboration
with the Sivaji Ganesan family. This year Mr. Lokesh of the SRM
University bagged the award.
The chief guests were popular singer Asha Bhosle, actress Priyamani
and producer Ram Kumar, eldest son of Sivaji Ganesan. While Asha
enthralled the students by rendering a Hindi song, Priyamani crooned
a song from Malaikottai.
