Software exporter Tech Mahindra has set up a 1.2-lakh square
foot development centre at the Mahindra World City Special Economic
Zone (SEZ) in Paranur near Chennai.
The facility, Tech Mahindra's seventh in India, has been set up
at an investment of Rs 30 crore and will house about 1,400 software
engineers once expansions are completed, the company said.
The new development centre will seat 400 people in the first phase
with plans to add 1,000 people over the next 18 months.
Vineet Nayyar, vice-chairman, managing director and CEO, Tech Mahindra,
said the company has been addressing new players in the telecom
ecosystem and expanding its service lines.
"The Chennai centre will be integral to the expansion of the
company's service offerings and delivery capabilities."
The centre will offer quick connectivity, videoconferencing facilities,
training centres, food courts, an amphitheatre, recreation facilities,
a swimming pool, a gymnasium and a sports complex for its employees.
Tech Mahindra will leverage the new facility to expand its Telecom
R&D business.
Managed by Mahindra & Mahindra as a joint venture with British
Telecom, $648-million Tech Mahindra presently operates development
centers in Noida, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
