For
over six years, the exclusive upmarket arts and crafts store - The
Heritage has been experimenting with the earthy medium of terracotta,
creating various themes, based panels, murals, lamp shades, table
bases and show pieces.
Established in 1995, all the terracotta creations in the shop come
with ply bases that make them sturdy. The jewel tones and rich marine
hues lend these clay wonders the look of a curio. The shop also
has an impressive collection of Tanjore paintings, glass paintings,
curios and gift articles in fish bone, cultured marble, glass and
porcelain. From miniature masks to mega murals, the shop has become
a favoured destination for art lovers in the city. The in-house
artists are led by C. Balamurugan.
The
collection has pieces priced right from Rs.15/- to Rs.30, 000/-.
The latest attraction in the shop is Goddess Lakshmi with
five diyas, Ganesha and his orchestra with beautiful lamps,
and a host of other ethnic creations. Every year during Diwali Heritage
holds its own festival of lamps; the shop celebrates creativity
in clay with a rare range of diyas and traditional lamps done in
its characteristic terrabatik mode. The specialty of these creations
is that they can double up as show pieces too. Handcrafted with
innovative flair, the lamps with ethnic motifs, though traditional,
have a contemporary appeal.
