Fully loaded...Armed and Dangerous. That's Ford Mondeo
for you.
The
Mondeo is the latest entrant into the D-segment in India from the
Ford stable. Speaking of being loaded, the Mondeo has all its features
as standard equipment. Ford has certainly not held back in providing
all the toys, from a front loading six CD player to the powerful
Duratec petrol and Duratorq diesel engines with emission
standards conforming to the Euro III norms (that would be
Euro IV in countries like Sweden, where the fuel is of much higher
quality).
Though the Mondeo has won much international acclaim, it is difficult
to hazard any guess on how the car would sell in India, as the D-segment
itself is in an early stage in India. Apart from that, the
car by it self looks to be a winner if one were to go by the kind
of rave reviews and the awards that it has got in markets abroad.
It
has got 29 international awards, which include 11 'Car of
the year' titles this year. It has also won rave reviews
from international auto experts and critics. The BBC Top Gear,
Autocar and Automonitor from the United Kingdom have
awarded it a five star rating and have placed it ahead of competitors
like BMW X5, Merc C class, Alfa Romeo 147 and the Audi
A4.
With its aristocratic looks, elegant European styling and impeccable
German engineering, the Mondeo has been among the most successful
products from the Ford Motor Company in markets abroad.
The car, which is manufactured in Ford's plant in Genk, will be
imported to India as completely built units (CBUs).
While revealing the car to the media in Chennai, David Friedman,
Managing Director, Ford India said, "Customers will
love it, experts will praise it and the industry will respect it".
David Friedman hoped that the trail blazing international records
set by Mondeo would continue in India.
Speaking
about the car, which incidentally has been designed digitally from
scratch to finish, Randy Shockley, Vice-President, Marketing,
Sales and Service, Ford India, said that the Mondeo was undoubtedly
the next big success story from Ford India after the IKON.
All set to launch in December, the Ford Mondeo will come with petrol
and turbo diesel power trains in three colours - Panther Black,
Stardust Silver and Oyster White. The customers
will be able to buy the Mondeo from mid-December onwards at Ford
dealer outlets in thirteen cities across the country.
The
Electronic Stability Programme and pyrotechnic seat belts are just
a few of the many features that come as a standard package with
the Mondeo. The safety features of the Mondeo are something
to talk about. The double locking system, safeguard mobiliser,
shielded door locks and locking bonnet make it impossible for the
car to be stolen. The Ford Mondeo is the winner of the 2001
BVRLA security award for defeating vehicle crime.
The Mondeo looks to live up to its name, which is drawn from two
words - Mundus, which is Latin for 'World' and Mon Dieu,
'My God' in French.
