Mayapandi- student from Government Arts and Crafts College, Egmore,
is a youth who has developed a unique passion of painting in a bottle.
His
first work in bottle, took shape when he was just 14-year-old, that
too with an intention to gift his girl friend something different.
Though it was difficult in the beginning for the young artist to
perfect the art, he did not give up. In fact he did not have numbers
of the bottles he broke in the effort.
It is a wonder how he managed to get a grip on the brush and paint
the inside of the bottle through the narrow neck. The secret is
the artist uses appendages to the brush to reach right down.
The art comes to him easily now. His latest work- a bottle with
150 personalities painted in it. His next effort is to paint 500
personalities in the bottle and to sculpt figures inside the bottle.
Mayapandi is the lone person from his native village Thengalpatti
in Maduari district to land up in the prestigious Government Art
and Crafts College. Son of a brick merchant, he does not get the
support of his father to study at the college. His Chitti sends
him money that keeps him and his art going.
His unrealized dream is to carve a huge statue of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga
Thevar that will be a cynosure of all eyes. For the time being,
he dreams to make it to the Guinness pages.
