Oxford
University Press (OUP) is a department of the University
of Oxford. It furthers the University's objective of excellence
in research, scholarship and education by publishing worldwide in
more than fifty countries.
OUP is the world's largest university press. Since its inception
in 1478, OUP has been committed to continuous development of its
scholarly and educational publishing, responding to the growing
need for school, college, and academic books.
OUP in India is 87 years old. The first book published by OUP
in India was Dr S Radhakrishnan's, `Essentials of Psychology'
in 1912. OUP first started its operation in Bombay (now Mumbai).
It has offices and showrooms in eleven Indian Cities - the four
metros apart, in Bangalore, Trivandrum , Hyderabad, Poona, Lucknow,
Guwahati and Patna. The Head office is in Delhi and the present
Managing Director is Manzar Khan.
OUP in Chennai started operating in 1920 from Mount Road, next
to the LIC building. Sometime in 1966, OUP shifted its premises
to its present location, the one next to the US consulate.
OUP Chennai is the Regional office for South India with showrooms
at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. The Chennai branch
of OUP caters to overseas market of Sri Lanka.

BOOKSTORE AND RESOURCE CENTRE
The brainchild of Radhika Menon, Director of Tulika,
Good Books was started on May 3rd, 2000.Tucked away in a cool corner,
Good Books is perhaps, the only one of its kind in India, for children
and young people.
Good
Books offers good books (Pun unintended) in English, Tamil, Kannada,
Hindi and Urdu for children. The books are sourced from big and
small publications, Government and non-government organisations.
They also supply books anywhere in India and abroad. The books here
represent the best in children’s publishing in India and abroad.
Good Books also hosts a number of interactive activities for the
children. Reading trail, a story telling session, every Saturday
morning. Children are introduced to the lively world of stories
and books. For four sessions the charge is Rs.200/- and Rs.150/-
is given back as redeemable coupons.
Meeting place, another activity, brings together celebrities
and children. A few who have participated are Ramesh Krishnan,
T.N.Seshan and Srinidhi Rangarajan. Talking Point
is a forum for older children to discuss and debate many issues.
For every child, who wants a world to call his own, Good Books is
