NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY

The National Institute of Fashion Technology, popularly known as NIFT, has one of its main centres here. Three important courses are offered here - the top three in the NIFT general syllabi. These are Fashion Technology, Garment Manufacturing Technology and Knitwear Design.

In keeping with its superior standards, selection is based purely on merit. According to the Registrar of the Institute, S. Devadoss, NIFT, Chennai is the place to learn (for Tamil Nadu is an important centre for textiles, garment manufacture and export in the country). Besides superb infrastructure and a qualified faculty, NIFT can boast of being one of the top fashion institutes in the country. Students are encouraged to learn through workshops, seminars, projects and industry interaction. One hundred per cent placement is guaranteed for every NIFTian. Fashion Designing is the number one course, if only because of the glamour attached to it, but the other two are not very far behind. Some popular NIFTians within the city include: Feroz of Svarovski and Julie Verghese - Fashion Designer.
