With
6000 students and 25 departments, Loyola College, run by
the Jesuit Order of Priests, is autonomous, but continues to be
affiliated to the University of Madras.
Founded in 1925, by Reverend Fr Francis Bertram, the Institution
is today the city's premier college for Arts and Science education.
It has been awarded the five star status by the National Assessment
and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It was the first college in the
city to be awarded the five star status.
Eminent alumni include former President R. Venkataraman, P.
Chidambaram, C. Rangarajan, T. T. Vasu, Milka Singh, Ramanathan
Krishnan, Vijay Amirthraj and Vishwanathan Anand.
