INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTRE
A
library that can offer extensive information on the United States
of America. A library that can give you more than just information
or knowledge. A library that provides entertainment while at the
same time vastly enriching your database. The American Information
Resource Centre can give you all this and much more. The AIRC
is a part of the United States Embassy and Consulate, Chennai.
With
a 22,000 volume collection, subscription to 125 periodicals, 4 American
newspapers, CD-ROMs, online databases and over 800 videotapes, the
AIRC is indeed one of the best libraries in the city. The library
is strong in social sciences, government and politics, economics
and international relations, American History and Literature and
US management practises. The AIRC conducts orientation programmes
for easier use of the library and its materials. You can request
library materials through one of several ways that include post,
telephone, fax, e-mail or in person.
The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) lets you access books
from any one of several holdings in the country. Institutions can
also avail of memberships, which gives a broader spectrum of usage
of the library facilities. And, if at first you don't succeed in
locating a book, just reserve it and it will come to your house
by post. Fee-based photocopying, bibliographic and textual CD-ROM
databases, online databases and Internet, are some of the electronic
resources within the library. You can avail of a membership or pay
Rs. 10/- a day for using the library resources.

Individual Members - Rs. 200/- per annum.(4 Books for 1
month)
Non-Profit Organisations - Rs.1500/- per annum or Rs. 2500/-
for 2 years.
(20 Books and 5 Videotapes).
Institution Members - Rs.3000/- per annum or Rs. 5000/- for
2 years.

BRITISH
COUNCIL LIBRARY
45,000 books, a superb array of journals and periodicals,
not to mention British newspapers and CD-ROMs, videos, computerised
cataloguing, a user-friendly cyber centre - its all here at the
British Council library. The British Council Library is one
of the premier libraries that offers a vast amount of information
on a wide variety of subjects.
For a member, books can be borrowed only for specified periods
of time, after which you can avail an extension through telephone
or in person. Through their inter-library loan scheme, you can access
a book from any of the 12 centres in the country (if the book is
available in those libraries). The library offers extensive information
on development projects in India and abroad. If you enrol onto the
mailing list, the latest information on the area of your interest
will be sent to you, including white papers, press releases, articles
and the like.
The library boasts a junior section where children between the
age group of 5 and 15 can refer books, CD-ROMs and computers that
are meant solely for them. The library also has Educational Counselling,
in case you want to study in the UK and Business information for
those wanting to start trade with the UK-based firms.

Junior Junction - Rs. 550/ per annum. (3 Books for 3 weeks)
Institution Members - Rs.4000/ (Borrow 20 Books and 20 Magazines
