BHAVAN
From
the Huns to Hitler from the Anglo-Saxons to
the Third Reich, the Max Mueller Bhavan library
has it all. The Max Mueller Bhavan library is a neat environment
conducive to constructive learning and reference. It is located
in the heart of the Max Mueller Bhavan, named after the famous indologist,
Friedrich Max Mueller and is a branch of the Goethe Institute,
Munich, Germany. The Max Mueller Bhavan also has a language
department that conducts language classes and a programme department
which organises cultural programmes.
The
library aims at disseminating information on all matters pertaining
to Germany (other than trade and commerce). The library has
a collection of over 8,000 titles and over 300 audio-visual media.
Subjects range from philosophy to performing arts, history, social
sciences and literature. As a tribute to Max Mueller, the library
has a collection of books on India including some of his works and
also those of other indologists. The library follows the catalogue
system of reference.
The library subscribes to about 50 periodicals and 3 German newspapers
of which the weekly, Der Spiegel is sent by air mail and
the others by sea mail. There is also a mediatheque where one can
watch videos or listen to audiocassettes. There are 3 auto-trainers
that enable language students to improve their learning comprehension
in German. An internet facility has been installed for the convenience
of the students. The Max Mueller Bhavan provides superior facilities
that help students learn more about Germany.

THE STUDY
- KFI LIBRARY
Peaceful, Calm, Relaxing… this place is
more than just different. Here, the very silence may teach you a
lot more than years of visiting the average library. It is here
that one discovers and journeys through the teachings of Philosopher
J. Krishnamurti.
Housed
in Vasant Vihar, (what was once the residence of J. Krishnamurti),
this unique library has as its main offering, books on Krishnamurti's
life and teachings. Apart from these, there are books on Philosophy,
Psychology, Literature and Arts, Languages - both Indian and foreign
and journals. Most of the books are meant for reference, while some
tapes and books are lent. There are audio and video consoles within
the library that encourage learning at every level.
What actually sets the library apart is that you can stay here
while you learn. Boarding and Lodging is available and it is left
to your discretion as to how much you want to pay for it. Of course,
one must bear in mind the seriousness of the effort to encourage
learning and hence must respect the importance of the place.
For the library, there is no membership fee and anybody can access
the library and its facilities. It is open on all days excepting
Mondays. Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7p.m.
