KART BEAT
The
thrill of getting behind the wheel of a four-wheel drive, even if
it just a go-kart cannot be explained. The squealing tyres, burnt
rubber and the sheer rush of adrenalin can be invigorating for the
motor racing enthusiast. The added plus in this case, is that you
do not have to travel out of the city to indulge yourself.
Just about 5 kms from the heart of the city, Kart Beat is
AVMs answer to the unmet need of Chennais racing
aficionados. Kart Beat Sports Centre, a subsidiary of AVM
Studios has set up a go-karting centre at one of its old shooting
floors, so that regular shooting is not disturbed in any manner.
The
indoor karting centre has a 200 metre concretised track. Concrete
was chosen to help reduce wear and tear of the tyres. M S Guhan,
partner AVM Studios said that the idea to set up the track came
when some friends suggested, that we should make use of the space
available, to tap the holiday crowd. The rides are presently priced
at Rs.100/- for 5 minutes, as the response has been tremendous.
Membership packages and the increasing of track time are on the
anvil. The Karts are fitted with Honda engines, while the
bodies are made locally in collaboration with Indus Engineering.
And that is not all, if you are hungry after setting the tracks
on fire, then take a pit stop at the Pit Stop café
and refresh yourself with your favourite soft drink or eats.
So, go ahead! Strap on your helmet and race your way to glory.

KART ATTACK
What is the closest thing to racing like Michael Schumacher or
Narain Karthikeyan?
If you want the thrills without the 'spills', then Kart Attack
is the place to be.
It is a fun centre on 1.75 acres of land on the East Coast Road.
In Chennai, though amusement parks have go-kart type bumper cars,
this is the first serious effort to put up a go-kart centre. It
is less than a year old.
The Go-Karts at Kart Attack are powered by Honda engines. They
reach a top speed of 50 km per hour. The karts do not have protective
bodywork, and the driver sits only a few inches above the ground.
The track has lots of curves and turns and is cement laid. Go Kart
tracks are said to give the feel of Formula I racing. Even Narain
Karthikeyan, our own Indian Formula I Grand Prix driver is an avid
fan of Go Kart racing.
Kart Attack has 14 machines imported from Thailand.
