SNOW BOWLING

No, this is not some place on the snow-capped Alps. Nor can you bowl snow balls there. Located on the third floor of HM Centre, Nungambakkam, it's the first bowling alley in the city. It has the distinction of hosting Fast Lane '99, the first Bowling Tournament in Chennai.

Snow Bowling has four lanes with all equipment from Brunswick. Around 200 to 300 people send the Pins crashing each day - kids of all ages, teenagers and adults.

A single game is priced at Rs 100/- on weekdays and Rs 125/- on weekends. There's a food joint, a pool table, a giant TV screen, and karaoke facility. One game, a cool drink and a pizza will work out to about Rs 200/-, which is what customers spend on an average for each visit.

On weekends, there's Cosmic Bowling, or Glow-in-the-dark Bowling, where all the balls glow, and the whole place is lit up in blue.

Snow Bowling also arranges parties for individuals or companies. Separate membership schemes are available for individuals, families and corporates. And if you're good at the game, exciting freebies are yours for the taking. For instance, four strikes can get you a free game.

The crowd is good. The music is good. The place looks a trifle small, but it never gets too cramped.
