India's first Beach Drive-in Theatre, Prarthana,
was founded by Dr. N. Devanathan, Ph.D., (former advisor to the
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and former member of the Tirupati
Tirumala Devasthanam Board (TTD).
Prarthana (which means 'prayer') was conceived
by Dr. Devanathan to offer entertainment for the whole family, in
a different atmosphere. With a theatre, a restaurant and a children's
park all in one place, Prarthana does just that. Prarthana has two
galleries, with a combined seating capacity of 614. There are 307
seats in each gallery.
One of the major highlights is the giant screen
(100 feet by 60 feet), covering about two and a half grounds, specially
curved to provide for better clarity and viewing. Only cars are
allowed on the ramp. The ramp can hold 160 cars and is constructed
in such way that a person sitting in the back seat can also view
the movie comfortably.
Films (English, Tamil or Hindi) to be screened
at Prarthana are chosen carefully. Only films, which can be enjoyed
by the whole family, are screened. Prarthana Beach Drive-in theatre
complex also houses a mini air-conditioned theatre 'Aradhana'
which has 305 seats.
There are five reservation counters spread across
the city. There is also the facility for booking tickets online.
The Drive-in restaurant is open from 05-00 pm to 11-30 pm. and arranges
for High Tea or Dinner, for small and big groups.
The Theatre, situated on 20 acres, has as its patrons,
Chennai's top industrialists and celebrities.
