AVM's first film was Alli Arjuna (1935).
The studio was started at Karaikudi in 1946. A. V. Meiyappan produced
the silver jubilee film Naam Iruvar and other films
like Vedaala Ulagam and here.
The
studio moved to its present location, at Vadapalani, in 1948. Starting
with a single shooting floor, AVM Studios now has nine floors. Also
available are recording theatres and a computerised dubbing theatre.
Facilities for video production include U-matic cameras, Beta cameras,
a video dubbing theatre, editing rooms and air-conditioned preview
theatres. Also offered are outdoor and indoor set creation units
and automated back-projection facility for shooting.
Among the landmark films produced under the AVM
banner were Harischandra - the first Indian film to
be dubbed in two languages, the comedy Sabaapathy and
Hum Panchi ek Daal Ki that won the President's award.
Other memorable productions were Parasakthi, Kalathur Kannamma,
Parthal Pasitheerum, Pachai Vilakku, Server Sundaram, Anbe Vaa,
Murattukalai, Sakala Kala Vallavan, Mundhani Mudichu, Samsaram athu
Minsaram, Patti Sollai Thattathey and Yejaman. To
celebrate 50 years of AVM, the Broadway-musical styled film Minsaara
Kanavu was released with great success. At the helm today
is AVM Saravanan.
AVM's Television production division has brought
to Tamil audiences chart-topping serials like Aatchi International,
Nimmadi Ungal Choice, Sondamand Vazhkai.
Since Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasad or L.V.
Prasad as he was known established Prasad Studios in
1965, the group has been providing the city's film and television
industry the best in state-of-the-art production and post-production
facilities.

Video Digital offers inter-format editing suites, computer graphic
suites, a digital audio facility, multi-camera packages and a telecine
suite. The group's 70 mm recording theatre is the only one of its
kind in Asia, offering 70 mm 6-track and 35 mm 4-track mixing, striping
and transfers, all under one roof. Prasad Studios houses
shooting floors, recording theatres, a dubbing theatre and a sophisticated
editing suite. Prasad Labs, the largest in the country, processes
around 10 million feet of film per month. Prasad's EFX offers
the latest in reverse telecine, film recording, digital film scanning,
special effects and graphics-for-film services.
Positioned as a one-stop shop for film and television,
the group is now getting back to content production with which it
started off in the beginning.
