KUTIR - FOR ETHNIC INDIAN WEAR

KutirKutir is a name that's pretty well ensconced in the minds of women who boast of an excellent collection of ethnic Indian wear.  Kutir has been present in the capital city for nearly 20 years now.  Its franchisee showroom in Chennai has also been well received since it was started a little more than five years ago, in 1996.

KutirSituated on the 'Road of Boutiques' as C P Ramaswamy Road is sometimes referred to, Kutir has a very homely atmosphere and unique interiors that are perfectly in tune with its name (Kutir means a small cottage).  The range of clothes on display is an array of formal and semi-formal fashion wear for women.  Designer Mamta Kheror, who is based in Delhi, has designed all the clothes that are available at Kutir.  Mamta's styles are extremely elegant and contemporary and never seem to go out of style.  As S Vidya of Kutir put it, "It's not like our customer profile is very defined.  All kinds of customers walk in and buy; from college going girls to housewives to executives to old ladies.  The style and choice appeals to all.  Our ethnic Indian wear creates a kind of exclusivity".  And with Vidya, who is at her winsome best with customers and for whom customers are the first priority, it is no wonder that Kutir enjoys the popularity that it does.

KutirAnd as far as preferences go, again it's very difficult to pin point, "Atleast as far as Chennai is concerned, there is no set trend or pattern in buying that is skewed towards one side, people generally like everything.  Once people or customers are given attention, shown the products with love and care they are certainly going to like it.  They should experience that kind of shopping.  There is one thing however that can be said.  Most want to buy semi-formal wear.  They want something different and dramati,c even if they are buying for Rs 1500/- or Rs 2000/-.  It's basically the need to be different and we try to cater to that need, to the best of our abilities" , says Vidya.

At Kutir, the Salwars start at Rs 650/-, while tops that can go with skirts or jeans start at Rs 200/- and there are duppattas from Rs 125/- onwards.  There are even thorans (ornamental hangings) for doors that are available at around Rs 75/-.
