MID SUMMER NITE FASHION SHOW

It was a 'hell of a ride' all the way through the chaotic traffic to Le Royal Meridien, to witness what was being touted as the ‘most happening event in town’.  The show was organised by the Rotary Club of Madras East to raise funds for charity.

Mid Summer Nite Fashion ShowWhat was supposed to be 'games and entertainment', as mentioned in the invite turned out to be nothing but an hour full of impassioned pleas and clichés from the compere Nilu to the audience who seemed to be more interested in ‘tanking up’ with the soft drinks outside the hall rather than part with their money at the games table, which had a virtual reality horse race on a large format screen.

The Mid summer nite fashion show was well worth the wait and the trouble. The fashion show had the local models displaying the best of Nathella Anjanelu Chetty’s jewellery and Dipnaaz and Richa’s creations, alternating between dance numbers by Swingers and Madura Coats collections.  It was more than an hour of fascinating display by the top models of Chennai who were overshadowed by John Abraham who set the ramp on fire. The icing on the cake was the electrifying performance of Swingers. Swingers – the most happening dance troupe in town lead by the ebullient Prasanna who has trained under Shiamak Davar and also at the Edge Performing Arts Centre, Hollywood chose popular numbers like September Madham... from Alaipayuthey and Vasundhara Das' Meri Jann...

At the end of it all it turned out to be a mid-night special in the middle of the summer. The end verdict – high on entertainment and low on organising.
