Founded in 1910, Bapalal & Co. is top-of-the-mind when it comes to diamond jewellery in the city.  Traditional craftsmanship, combined with the state-of-the-art technology gives them the special status they enjoy today.

It has been a family business ever since its founding.  At the time of its founding, Bapalal sold just diamonds. Later, a workshop was started and they started making diamond jewellery.  Two decades later, in the 1930’s, a full-fledged workshop was added.  Over the period of years many partners moved out and started out on their own.  At present the parent company is a proprietory concern.  Pranav H Mehta, Proprietor of Bapalal & Co. says, “ All jewellery is manufactured by us at our workshops in Chennai and Mumbai.  As for the raw materials, we procure the best locally or in Mumbai.  Originally we were in Parry’s. About a year back we shifted to Nungambakkam to the present showroom which is spread over 1,250 square feet.”

At Bapalal, personalized service and trust goes beyond the usual customer relationship.  When queried about this Pranav added, “Usually when people give jewellery for remaking, they have no second thoughts about leaving the piece with us for a day or two.  At other places people who give jewellery for remaking insist on watching the achari remake it.  This is an example of the trust that we have gained from our customer.”

“Contemporary designs, gems and the quality of the work and finish are what attract customers",says Pranav. “We export a lot to the United States, to our customers who are settled there.  Most of the orders are through word of mouth or when a person chances across our website and gets in touch with us”.
