ANNALAKSHMI
Annalakshmi
is the Goddess of Food, the Divine mother who nourishes
all, in thousand different ways. Which is why it seems the perfect
name for a unique dining experience.
Annalakshmi is a purely vegetarian restaurant, serving South Indian,
North Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisine. The average cost
of a meal for two would be
Rs 600/-. They have buffet options only on festive occasions, when
they organise theme buffets. Advance tele-reservation and ordering
is a must for speciality cuisine. They do undertake catering within
the city, and have carried out catering for a maximum of 1,000 people
at one go.
Annalakshmi
was started by Swami Shantananda Saraswati, disciple of Swami
Shivananda. All the people working at Annalakshmi are volunteers
devoted to Swami Shantananda. Mothers and grandmothers, brothers
and sisters, cook each day in honour of the Goddess of Food. According
to N. Arvind, Restaurant Manager, sometimes some of their
guests come back to serve as volunteers. Annalakshmi welcomes "anyone
with a heart to love, serve and give".
Sampoorna and Swarnalakshmi are the high points
of the menu offered at Annalakshmi. Sampoorna is an exclusive seven
course extravaganza, served course by course on silver and crystal
ware and the Swarnalakshmi is a king's feast - an extravagant spread,
served in vessels made of gold.
Steeped in culture and tradition, the ambience is rustic. It is
ornamented by elaborately carved wood sculptures and icons made
by artisans from different parts of India. To support art and artisans,
all the artefacts, tables and chairs are up for sale. The money
goes directly to the artisans and the leftover margin goes to charity
through the Shivanjali Trust - a medical, social, cultural
and educational charity. Annalakshmi has branches in Malaysia,
Australia, Singapore and Coimbatore.
