PARAMAKUDI
RESTAURANT
The
latest addition to the Chettinad eateries in the city is Paramakudi
at Anna Nagar. Serving only Chettinad specialities, the restaurant
is spacious with a lot of decorative lighting. The walls are lined
with mirrors. The designer steel tables have granite tops
with very comfortable wooden chairs. The lights reflecting
off the mirrors and tabletops add a special glow to the place.
Busy even on weeknights, the eatery is a favourite haunt of non-vegetarians
in general and Chettinad food lovers in particular. Families
are the major customers in the evenings, while neighbourhood office-goers
frequent the place for lunch. Prices are reasonable and a
meal for two would cost around Rs 200/-.
The menu has some unusual Chettinad items like the rabbit fry,
turkey fry and the kaadai fry, which are not available in most other
restaurants. The most ordered dish is the non-vegetarian biriyani.
Talking
about competition, Ram, one of the promoters of this restaurant,
says it has only been good for his business. He opines,
'Chennaites are no longer conservative. They are ready
to try out new things if you give them good options. If you
provide quality, then you can survive.' In fact, a new
Chinese and Tandoori restaurant is to be launched sometime this
year, in the same complex with a separate entrance.
The eatery offers free door delivery within a three-kilometre radius.
It also undertakes outdoor catering and party orders.
