Ayurvedasramam,
initially just an Ayurvedic Pharmacy established by Pandit D.
Gopalacharulu in 1898, is one of the oldest in Chennai. Today,
it is with the medicine manufactured by Gopalacharulu that the Pharmacy
is more popularly identified with. The descendants of Gopalalchraulu
still run the Pharmacy and at present Dr. Desikacharulu, who
belongs to the fourth generation, heads the Pharmacy.
Ayurveda is a science of enhancing lifespan, qualitatively and
quantitatively. With this backgrounder, Ayurvedasramam has as its
aim the overall well being of humanity, with focus on the individual.
Also, the sustenance of Vedic Education and service. The institution
has as its Objectives - Ayurvedic consultation and treatment. Creating
Awareness about Social health and hygiene on traditional lines.
Focus on a healthy lifestyle. And service to the economically backward
patients through free medical camps.
FACILITIES AVAILABLE
AYURVEDIC
PHARMACY - The Pharmacy constantly adds new medicines to the
list, apart from the ones manufactured under Goplalacharulu. A mobile
van is used for distribution of medicine.
AYURVEDIC HEALTH CENTRE - (Consultation and Treatment Unit)
As part of the centenary celebrations of the Ayurvedasramam, a new
unit of the Ayurvedic Health centre has been opened in the Ayurvedasramam,
which houses two consultation chambers, a common waiting hall, a
storeroom and an attached bath. The waiting hall is artistically
designed, with a statue of Gopalacharulu at the centre.
PANCHAKARMA THEATRE - (for preventive and curative therapies)
Located in the first floor of the building, the Pancha Karma Theatre
has facilities to provide oil massages, steam bath, fomentation
and tub-baths. The unit has facilities for housing patients.
AYU-HEALTH CIRCLE - (a socio-cultural wing) It is a programme
intended to create awareness among the people regarding the need
for healthy living. Individuals are free to enrol as members in
the Ayu-Health circle.
