Raghevendra Rao, (Recipient of the India Young Business Achiever Award for 1996-97), Orchid is also one of the leading producers of cephalosporin worldwide. TTK Pharma, incorporated in 1958, is part of one of the leading industrial groups in South India, the TTK group. TTK Pharma became a household name in the country with the success of Woodward's Gripe Water (It began its operations by marketing this brand). It is also the first pharmaceutical company in India accredited with ISO 9002 certification.

Manufacture of Gripe Water in India was started in 1959. Since then, TTK Pharma has diversified steadily. The latest addition to its range is the tilting disc heart valve prosthesis. (Heart valves are being produced in Chennai since 1997-98). Equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Chennai, it also has manufacturing units at Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The manufacturing unit at Chennai has the facility to manufacture small volume injectables, (vials and ampoules), tablets, capsules, granules and liquid orals (including Woodward's Gripe Water). Bulk drugs such as Bronopol BP and Valethamate Bromide NF are also manufactured at this unit. TTK Pharma also has a well-equipped Quality Assurance Laboratory and is equipped with cutting edge R&D. Special emphasis is laid on Phyto-chemistry as well as the development of a broad range of Allopathic and Ayurvedic formulations. The company is now venturing into generic pharmaceutical formulations. In 1997-98, two new products were launched in the OTC segment - Big Boss - a male rejuvenator and Janma Ghutti, a paediatric tonic. Recently, Woodward's Oral Rehydration Salt, was launched.
