Co-ordinated tableware, bed linen and curtains can enhance the
aesthetic appeal of your home.
-
Well-made, expensive curtains look poor if they are too short
for the window, or lack fullness. Lining silk or muslin is cheap.
Use material generously to make luxuriously full curtains.
-
Fabric leftover from pattern matching can be used for tie-backs,
trims or cushions.
-
When hanging a curtain with rings or tab-headings, leave one
at the outer edge to hang beyond the pole bracket - to hold
the curtain in place.
-
Use coins instead of draper's lead to weigh down the hems
of light curtains - vary the coins according to the weight of
the fabric.
-
Choose a good blind cord when making your blinds - cheaper
versions will wear out more quickly.
-
Soak very dirty curtains in cold water before washing.
-
Unfasten gathering cords and pull curtains flat before washing.
-
Mark hook positions on curtains with a tiny dab of nail varnish.
-
Label your curtains, with coloured thread from left to right;
one long stitch for window number one and so on round the room.
This will save time when putting the curtains back again, after
cleaning.
