Established in 1945 to cater to the need of households, P Gopal
Chettiar (PGC) Rolling Works has come a long way since then.
In its early years it was a trading concern, before it became
a major manufacturing house producing a wide range of aluminium
vessels in 1954. From there it started making its own aluminium
circles and sheets by procuring materials. For this purpose it had
already invested in furnaces and rolling machines.
In
1983, PGC introduced one-piece aluminium containers and bottles,
which went on to become a huge success. It started with a capacity
of 300 units per day and now produces 1000 units of 5 litre containers
and 3000 units of 1 litre containers. Its credentials are proved
by the profile of its clients which includes Bayer, BASF, Rallis,
Parry, Hoechst and Lupin among others.
PGC
soon plans to manufacture extruding bottles with an increased production
capacity of 1500 units of 5 litre containers and 6000 units of 1
litre containers. They also plan to produce aerosol containers with
customised printing for clients. All the processes, right from the
melting of raw materials (NALCO Aluminium) to sheet cutting to making
billets, from rolling to nect forming, circle punching to tube drawing
are done at its facility itself. PGC is one of the handful of companies
in the whole of India to manufacture such a wide range of aluminium
products. 'Quality and 'Reliability' are two attributes that are
part of the PGC tradition, where they have become a way of life.
