Addisons Paints and Chemicals Limited was established in
1946 as a part of the Amalgamations group. The company manufactured
paints under the brand name Spartan, in colloboration with
Hardie Trading Ltd, Australia. The company now manufactures
both decorative paints and industrial paints, like air drying enamels,
N/C lacquers, acrylic lacquers, epoxy paints, polyurethane paints,
anticorrosive primers, pre-treatment chemicals and bituminous paints.
Over
the years Addisons has had technical collaboration with various
international brand leaders. Presently the colloborators are Neilson
Chemical company, USA, Nippon Oil and Fat company, Japan, Okitsumo
Inc, Japan and W L Schwaab Inhaber Gebruder Becker GmbH, Germany.
The company also produces heat resistant paints in colloboration
with Okitsumo Inc, Japan. These paints are able to withstand temperatures
of upto 630 degrees celsius. Addisons has a strong research backing
and has consistently introduced innovations in the field of developing
paints, that are suitable for Indian climatic conditions. Their
R&D department is recognised by the Department of Science
and Technology, Government of India. Their clients include Hero
Honda, Kinetic Honda, Escort Yamaha and TAFE.
MRF's Speciality Coatings Division was started in 1989,
by the late Ravi Mammen, as part of his concept of going
beyond tyres. He felt that it was not enough to be under the car.
MRF should also be "on the car".
The
Company has about 80% share of the polyurethanes market. For polyurethanes,
MRF has a technical collaboration with Bayers, Germany. They
were the first manufacturers to bring in polyurethanes-based paints
to India. MRF also has a technical collaboration with Vapocure,
Australia, for its curing technology. They are the only licensees
for the curing system for all of South Asia.The Company has developed
an entire range of brass coating systems and heat resistant aluminium
paints to be used on chimneys and silencers and has pioneered the
manufacture of wood coatings.
MRF manufactures speciality coatings for wide range of applications.
The revolutionary 100% polyurethane finishes are available in formulations
for application to metal, wood, plastics, paper, vinyl, textiles,
ceramics and glass. The coatings have been developed for colour
and gloss retention, strong adhesion and durability. They guard
against abrasion, corrosion, chemicals, bad weather and ultra-violet
radiation and are virtually maintenance-free.
