TEAK HEIRLOOMS
It
was a chance happening that saw us stumble on Teak Heirlooms
a treasure trove for anyone with even a slight leaning towards
teak furniture. We were impressed even as we made our way past
a few marble-top tables and a chest of drawers, all in majestic
teak, into the bungalow which housed the collection. It is a different
thing altogether to see furniture showcased in a home.
We were glad to escape from the torturous Chennai heat into the
cool confines of the house and after removing our footwear we met
Peter Lewis, who owns Teak Heirlooms.
Started in March this year, Teak Heirlooms is the brainchild of
a husband and wife team. Peter Lewis, a Chemical Engineer along
with his wife Priya, a graduate with over two decades of
experience in furniture retailing, entered this venture to bring
affordable furniture available abroad, to people in Chennai.
Peter
Lewis who has been working in East Asia for the last decade says,
Carved Chests and Marble-top furniture are the highlights
of the products available with us and we source the products from
the East. And as far as the preference of the Chennai customer goes,
it is mostly classical pieces.
But why teak? Because Teak is resistant to wood borers
and termites. It lasts for generations and it is also scarce in
India, he says.
When asked as to how he would profile the customer who comes to
him, he answered, A person with a touch of class, looking
for a good deal and the best value for money. People in Chennai
look for good wood like teak and classical designs".
On future plans for Teak Heirlooms, he said they are planning to
have a showroom while still keeping their prices affordable and
are also planning to have sales at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore
and other cities.
And if you want to see more of their products, you can check out
