In today's business environment, where everything is computerised,
it is very important to keep pace with trends and changes that save
time, money and effort. Computer pre-printed forms is one
such change that has made very easy, the task of processing large
quantities of invoices, statements, purchase orders and receipts
quickly and efficiently. They are an important requirement
for any office or commercial establishment.
In
Chennai, there are quite a few establishments supplying computer
continuous stationery. Kadirgama Enterprises, which
is more than a decade old is one of them. Their clients include
some of the top corporate houses in Chennai like Raasi
Cement, JBM-Sungwoo Ltd. (Hyundai), Godrej Soap, ABC Consultants
and State Bank of India among others.
We spoke to S Swaminatha Sarma of Kadirgama about the market for computer pre printed forms in Chennai.
Computer continuous forms include Invoices, Delivery Challans,
Share certificates and letterheads. They are usually printed
in multicolour and are also available in multi parts (where the
client requires multiple carbon copies). The raw material
for these forms is just ordinary paper in reel form. There
are different varieties of paper, 60 gsm, 80 gsm, 110 gsm and so
on. 60 gsm is the most commonly used.
Machinery
for printing these continuous forms are available right from Rs
10 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. The kind of machine that a person chooses,
will depend on his budget and also on the kind of customer that
he or she is going to target. The uniqueness of this industry is,
that it is not manpower intensive, nor is it too knowledge or skill
oriented. Says Sarma, "My main manpower requirement
is sales persons, to clinch orders. Apart from that there is not
much of manpower requirement".
It is a growing field,as it is not only a consumable product, but
also the demand is growing with new companies coming up. But
in this particular market it is very important to have a steady
flow of orders, or it may spell doom. The corporate companies
constitute about 30% of the end users, while the remaining is made
up mainly of, textile showrooms, boutiques, small shops and a sprinkling
of educational institutions.
"The
small orders are better for me because they guarantee instant payment,
while if I were to get a big order from a corporate, then I would
have to wait a few months to realise the payment. The bigger
the order, longer is the wait", said Sarma with a wry smile.
The margins are around 15 to 20 % on an average, and the ideal
clients are small shops or showrooms registering large volumes of
sales, as that would mean more orders for these firms.
