VELKOM EQUESTRIAN CENTRE

Adventure trails on horse back, through casuarinas groves, paddy fields, around lakes and through villages. Thats the experience guaranteed to you at Velkom Equestrian Centre.

Established in 1998, by the couple Raaj and Sumi, Velkom teaches you all about riding. Krishna Raaj is highly experienced and has done an advance course in horse riding. Before starting the centre he was a popular coach at the Madras Race Club.

The centre has students, especially young riders, who are eager to participate in equestrian events throughout the country. Advanced riders have the option of jumping lessons or hack along riverbanks and riding on the beach. A complete track is provided at the centre. Lessons are booked in advance and the classes are open to all persons over the age of five.

The riders are provided with all requisite gear including saddles, bridlers and helmets. The stables for eight horses are constructed out of eco-friendly coconut thatch, in a framework of casuarinas, which keeps the place cool.

Informative books on horse grooming, riding and jumping are available. There is also material on nature or wildlife for amateur photographers. Food and fresh juices are arranged for visitors from nearby restaurants. The visitors have the option of cooking their own food if they prefer to stay for long hours on weekends.

Rs.2000/- per head for riding lessons for beginners. The entire course is spread over eight days, each session of a one-hour duration.

Special packages are provided for Information Technology companies to have a bash on weekends (Rs.125/- per person).

The centre is a five-minute drive from Fisherman's Cove.

Open - Tuesday to Sunday from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.
and from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
