GRT Grand Days, a four-star business class hotel has become
the first hotel of its class in India to be certified ISO 9001:
2000. This certification is the latest of many awards
and honours that this hotel has bagged in its four years of operations
since its opening in 1998. A member of the Days Inns Worldwide
Inc, GRT Grand Days bagged the 'Best International Property
of the Year' award from Days Inns in its very first year of
operations and then proceeded to retain it for the next two years
in succession.
M
O Koshy, Vice-President, GRT Grand Days disclosed that in the
first year of the hotel's operation, some foreign guests had suggested
that it should go in for quality management certification.
While ISO 9001 was done mainly for manufacturing companies and industries,
ISO 9001:2000 -the latest version of the international quality management
standard certifies quality systems and procedures. This qualified
even the service industry to be certified. The process took
over a year with audits starting from November 2000 for a period
of 12 months.
Outlining the key benefits of being certified he added, "The
certification is a good way of being benchmarked to international
standards. It enables the hotel to meet mandatory European
standards that any product should be bought from an ISO certified
company. The process works as an effective management tool
to monitor quality and business process, as it is more system driven
than personality driven. The certification is not one time,
but a continuous improvement and training procedure. As the
latest version also adopts a common approach, it is compatible with
other management systems like ISO 14000, which is an Environment
Management system".
G Rajendran, Chairman, GRT Group, speaking on the
occasion said that the certification was in line with GRT's objective
of becoming the best hotel in its class in India and also to reach
out to international markets.
GRT
Grand Days has also achieved other landmarks in the year 2001, like
being the first hotel in its class to introduce 24-hour broad band
connectivity. It also launched 'e-rooms' a whole floor of
rooms equipped with PCs. The GRT Convention Centre,
situated adjacent to the hotel also became fully operational.
The hotel was certified by Det Norske Veritas one of the
world's leading certification bodies. In a grand function
organised by the hotel, the certificate was handed over to the GRT
Chairman by Krishna Kumar, District Manager, South India,
Det Norske Veritas. Nathan and Nathan were the consultants
for GRT Grand Days for the certification.
