BOARD WALKERS
“An idea tossed around
a coffee table”, Board Walkers came into being in 1991. To
give Chennai theatre something new, something to give shape to their
vision of theatre.
And to break into
the theatre scene, they had to do something big, something unforgettable.
Their first play, a production of Jesus Christ Superstar,
the famous rock opera, was held at the Open Air Theatre (O.A.T.)
at I.I.T., Chennai. That was the first time that professional
singers, dancers, musicians, and actors blended their talents to
entertain a crowd of 4,500 people. With a cast of 53, 5,000 watts
of throbbing sound, along with 45,000 watts of brilliant lighting,
the show was their first super success. And by popular demand,
was performed again at the Music Academy.
Today, Board Walkers
have to their credit plays like Sleuth, Biloxi Blues,
The Hairy Ape and musicals like The Pied Piper of Hamelin,
God, and Play it Again Sam. They also created a regular
event called The Buzz, which was live entertainment for audiences
and a platform for the untapped talent of Chennai. Board Walkers
is also an Event Management Company and a Television Software producer.
