JUNE ROCK
OUT SERVES A DREAM COCKTAIL
Two weeks into the league and the fervour of rock music has set
in tight. Thanks to June Rock Out! For the last two
Fridays, there has been a whole new stock of music at the Vineyard
Centre. After Wood and Zero last week this 15th
featured Orion's Dream and Molotov Cocktail.
Orion's
Dream the opening band for the evening, made the crowd's dream come
true with some mind-blowing numbers from Mr. Big with 'Strike
the lightning', Collective Soul's 'Shine', 'Fallen
Angel' from Poison, 'Higher' from Creed,
'Dead or Alive' from Bon Jovi and finally 'Get
Over It' from Eagles. Of special mention is their
performance of 'Higher' from Creed. Rohan Lean on the
vocals, Jady on bass, Ramakrishna and Michael
on the guitars, Kimberly on the drums and Shayne on
the keyboard performed well, but were outshone by Molotov Cocktail's
performance, which literally set the stage on fire. The band has
been contesting in quite a number of competitions in and around
the city and to mention their latest win, they were runners-up at
the Sarang Rock Fest 2001. They are still "young" in the city's
rock scene, and have featured earlier at LIVE1o1, the weekly Friday
night hangout of the Vineyard Centre.
After the break, Molotov Cocktail took the stage with Vocalist
Arjun welcoming the crowd saying, "Man, It's been a year!"
They started off 'Dangerous (ly)' with Doobie Brothers,
then came a song from Van Halen and 'Jump', Rainbow's
'Since you've gone', Dave Matthews' 'Too Much',
for George on the keyboard with his extraordinary brass section
received quite an applause, Iron Maiden's 'Wasting Love',
'Once' from Pearl Jam and even their own composition
'Mocktail' was a hit among the audience. Arjun Thomas,
Shaun Roberts on bass, Naveen Thomas and David
Fernandez on the guitars, Vasanth David on the drums
and George Joseph on the keyboard gave an example of how stage performance
can make a difference in the interaction between the band and the
audience.
Well don't you worry if you think you missed out on the action,
there's still two more weeks left with the upcoming week featuring
Joose and the Vineyard Band on the 22nd
with the final showdown on the 29th by No Idea followed by
the one and only Moksha. Catch you up there and remember,
be dressed to sweat.
