JOOSETIME
AT VINEYARD
Last Friday, June Rock Out had the Vineyard Band onstage,
rocking the crowd with some catchy numbers off the Vineyard music
label. And it wasn't just one way music either with the band throwing
in interactive songs like 'Undignified' and 'Mercy is
falling', that had the crowd crooning after them. The band displayed
its distinctive character and verve with its spirited rendition
of Dave Matthews' band's 'What would you say' and
'Goodbye blue sky' from Pink Floyd.
It
was 'Joosetime' after the break. Joose, which came first
at IIT's Sarang and second at National Law School, Bangalore
took the stage after some solid rock classics from the Vineyard
Band. For a difference it was nice to hear own compositions even
if they had already been played and Chennai rock fans were familiar
with them. 'Stop Mr President', 'What's the matter' and
'Why' did the rounds before the band sprang a surprise with
their 'What is it gonna be' - another of their own compositions
being played for the first time. After the debut of their latest
'own comp' it was time to play covers and Joose was at their pulsating
best while performing Limp Bizkit's 'Take a look around'
and RHCP's 'Aero Plane'.
It
is not only rock which is going to rock Chennai's rock afficinados.
There is more to June Rock Out this time around than just music.
There are two attractive guitars waiting to be given away. And if
you want to be part of the action, especially for those of you who
have a 'knack with words', there is a contest where you can send
in your lyrics for the June Rock Out theme song, which will be featured
in the soon-to-be recorded June Rock Out album. That's not all,
the winning lyricist gets to walk away with a precision bass guitar
from Tansen. Entries can be sent thorugh post or rushed to
themesong@vineyardcenter.com
before 1.00 p.m. on the 28th. As for the raffle, the lotus stratocaster
model, which is sponsored by Promusic and Unwind Music
is quite a steal at just Rs 20.
The
grand finale of JRO2001 is just around the corner and what better
way to end than with the best when it comes to rock in Chennai -
the one and the only - Moksha. One of the top three bands
in India, Moksha needs no introduction to Chennai rock fans. The
only Asian band to be featured on the tribute albums to Iron
Maiden as well as Metallica, the six year old band is
an excellent example of what heights, dedication and persistence
can take a band to. No Idea will open the evening on the
29th and if you don't want to miss out on 'getting rocked' then
be sure to be there and get blown over!
Tickets available at the venue for Rs.100 and for more details
