OCTANE
It is not just their name that is explosive but also their music...
 A
name that has been doing the rounds of the Chennai music scene for
quite some time, 'Octane' is a highly versatile western music
band, built on the rich and varied experience of its members. Octane’s
success stems from their belief, that only a professionally managed
band with a dynamic concert programming strategy and the ability
to provide an audience centric performance can give quality entertainment.
Its founder members have been associated with leading bands of
the South such as Rare Junk, The 11th Commandment,
The Revelations, Nemesis Avenue, Shakuni and The Birds of Prey,
Another Page, Mystique and so on.
 Although
the band’s forte is classic rock, they comfortably cover the
entire gamut of styles ranging from Jazz to Pop, Rock and Roll to
Country, Rhythm and Blues to Raaga fusion and so on. Be it a concert
of classic rock or an evening of commercial pop, the band performs
them all with equal ease and enthusiasm. The Octane members coming
from various professions and industries – Media, Travel,
Education, Commercial Music, IT, Oil and Gas, also have
their social commitment, which is spreading the gospel of environmental
protection and its awareness through their music concerts popularly
known as “Save the Earth” concerts.
Their major shows in 2000-2001 have been “Save the Earth”
Concert, Millennium Show at the Trident, Mascon Nite at Kamaraj
Memorial, NIIT Brain Busters at Image Auditorium, Christmas
Show at Railway Hall, William Mercer International Conference
at Taj Fisherman’s Cove, Vineyard ssRock n Roll
and Blues show.

Lionel, the lead vocalist is into Rock and commercial
pop, he started singing professionally from the age
of six.
Rajeev, the lead guitarist and backing vocalist
has 15 years of experience playing Rock and commercial
Pop. He is also trained in western classical.
Gerard is the ‘all rounder’ of the
band, being the composer, keyboard player, Vocalist
and Bass guitarist. With over a decade and half experience
of playing Rock, Classical and fusion music, he has
performed with various bands and ensembles such as Rare
Junk, The Revelations and The Madras Guitar and String
Ensemble.
Karthik is the wizard with woodwinds, midi wind
controllers and is also a backing Vocalist. He has
recorded with composers such as A.R Rahman, Udaya
and Suresh Peters.
Pradeep, a professional Bassist, who is well
versed with both Western and Indian forms of music,
performs and records Rock, Pop and Commercial music.
Immanuel the drummer has over 12 years of experience
playing Rock, Pop, Soul, Jazz and commercial music.
Gifted with a natural blend of deft wrist control and
powerful footwork, he won the “Best Drummer”
award twice at the National level music festival Mardi
Gras.
Shiva is the percussionist and drum programmer
with over eight years in performing and recording Western
and Eastern percussion. Trained at the Pioneer Drums
Academy, Shiva is currently under the tutelage of
Vikku Vinayakram.
