Street, Venkatachala Achari Street, Chandrabanu Street, Nagaapa
Mudali Street, Adithanar Salai (Harris Road), Kancheepuram

Though the market cannot be described as a seasonal market,
during monsoon and the Tamil month of Aadi (July to August),
sales are dull. Since its inception 16 years ago, the Motor
Vehicle Spare Parts Traders Development Association has
been instrumental in streamlining the market. Elections to
the Association are held every 3 years. The Association sees
that there is no flow of spare parts from stolen vehicles.
It also has several schemes to benefit traders; like giving
an ex-gratia payment of Rs.3,000/- to the family of any trader
who expires.
The
traders have appealed to the state government and Chennai
Corporation to set up an 'Auto Nagar' on the lines
of the Koyambedu market on the outskirts of the city.
The need for this has risen because, the growth of the market
has caused a space crunch in the area and the market is posing
a major hindrance to pedestrian and traffic movement.
"In this street 75 % of the traders are Muslims, while
the rest of the traders are Hindus, this market is a symbol
of Hindu-Muslim unity. Most of the traders are related to
each other and it is like a family here", says D.
Kandhasami, President of the Traders Association.
