P C SRIRAM
Acclaimed cinematographer and Ad filmmaker P C Sriram has
to his credit feature films like Mouna Raagam,
Nayagan, Agni Nakshatiram, May Madham,
Kadhalar Dhinam Idhayathai Thirudhathe, Apoorva Sagotharargal,
Gopura Vasalile, Thiruda Thiruda and Alai
Payuthey.
His interest in the camera was sparked when, at nine, his father
presented him with a Brownie camera. This Pune Film Institute student
(who failed to clear his course) has set benchmarks for the filmmaking
industry, which many are trying to emulate today.
Teaming up with his school classmate Jayendra, P. C.
Sriram helped correct the misconception that Chennai and
Ad filmmaking seemed incompatible. Their recent 3 minuter screened
for American President Bill Clinton, has been acclaimed not only
for its content and presentation, but also for the speed of production.
His feature film directorial efforts include Meera
and Kurithipunal (India’s nomination for the Oscar
awards).
P.C’s photo-posters are a sensation in Chennai. Priced at Rs.400/-
each, the picture of a mother with a child is one of the most sought-after.
RAJIV MENON
Surprisingly,
Cinematographer Rajiv Menon stays away from the camera viewfinder
when directing films.
An ace Ad filmmaker and Director, Menon's film directorial debut
- the Broadway-musical-styled Minsaara Kanavu, starring
Kajol, Aravind Swamy and Prabhu Deva, was a super-hit.
With its Hindi version - Sapney, doing as well, Rajiv
Menon has emerged in the industry, as one Director with that
rare sensitivity for what works best in the medium.
His latest directorial effort - Kandukondein Kandukondein
is a family drama starring Aishwaraya Rai, Tabu, Mammootty, Ajit
and Abbas.
Among Rajiv Menon's acclaimed cinematographic works are
Mani Ratnam's Bombay and Girish Karnad's Cheluvi
(Kannada).
