SUDHA RAGHUNATHAN
Clearly
the leading female Carnatic vocalist today, Sudha Raghunathan received
her training from her mother Sreemathi Choodamani, the late
B.V. Lakshmanan and the late
M.L. Vasanthakumari.
This postgraduate in Economics was her college's 'Most Outstanding
Student' for three years in succession. She was also known to excel
in debates, quiz, drama and essay writing.
But to the world today, she is perhaps one of the best consolations
for the loss of the great Vocalist Masters of old.
Sudha Raghunathan has performed for Television, Radio and in concert
the world over. One of her special contributions to Carnatic Music
has been her enormously successful lecture-demonstration sessions.
And despite her punishing schedule, she still finds time to train
talented, young musicians.
Along with her Carnatic Music album releases, Sudha Raghunathan
has also had several devotional music releases.
KUNNAKUDI R. VAIDYANATHAN
Born
in 1935, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan did not show any early inclination
towards music, despite being in a family of musicians. His father
was a violinist and a Sanskrit scholar. It was to stand in for the
usual violinist, who could not come to the Karthigai festival, that
the nine-year-old took up the violin. Within eleven months, he was
able to accompany his sisters.
Performing solo recitals since 1965, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan's ever-smiling
visage is the trademark sign of the delight he gets from the music
he plays. Apart from being a master violinist, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan
has also directed and composed music for over 40 films.
