RAVI SHARMA
He is a person behind innovations who is recently working on analysis
of Shilpa Shastra, Iconography, Indology, Archaeology and Agamas
co-relating with Natya.
This is Ravi Sharma in short, popularly known in the field
of dance, music and theatre arts in Chennai. The acclaimed dancer
learnt the preliminary grammar in dance from Kalaimamani K.V.S.Mani
Iyer and then graduated under the guidance of luminary Dr.Padma
Subramanyam.
Ravi
Sharma has also acted in National Theatres of R.S.Manohar
for over five years. This experience gave birth to his dance school
`Ratnalayaa in Triplicane. The thrust behind the school is
to propagate Indian Classical Dance, Music and Drama. It also emphasize
on traditional activities like yoga, slokas, meditation and physical
exercises for healthy living.
Besides assisting Dr.Padma Subramanyam in her thesis on `Natya
Shastra, the dancer has compiled and choreographed a documentary
film `Laasya Kala on behalf of Anna University covering all
the seven classical dances in India, for which he has claimed an
international award also.
His recent musical fusion on Katho Upanishad titled `Hari
Om Shanthi with different dancers based on five stages
of human being is an instant hit and widely received throughout
the country.
Recognising his contribution in the field of music and dance, he
has been conferred the title `Natya Kalai Mani by Chennai
Cultural Academy and `Best Theoretician Award by Rambal Arts
Academy of Mumbai for outstanding knowledge in Natya Shastra, Amarakoosam,
Sangita Ratnakara and Abhinaya Darpana.
Besides dance Ravi Sharma is also well versed in playing musical
instruments including flute and harmonium. He too has to his credit
awards in martial arts like Silambam. He has been giving lot of
lecture-demonstrations on different subjects in Natya Shastra.
