SHEELA SHARMA
An expert in Nattuvangam, Sheela Sharma is one of the few
dancers who have a separate place in the field of music and dance.
Born in a family of musicians, Sheela took her initial training
from Jayalakshmi Arunachalam and later from Chandra Dandayuthapani
Pillai. Besides she has also done a full-time course in Bharatnatyam
in Tamil Nadu Music College.
Her
contribution to the field of dance and music got her accolade and
she was conferred the title `Adal Kalaimani.
As Nattuvangam is a backbone of any dance recital, Sheela has undergone
rigorous training in the field and holds a first class in Nattuvangam
course and holds `Nattuvanga Kalaimani.
Recently she has been conferred the title `Natya Kala Rathna
from Chennai Cultural Academy in recognition of her outstanding
performance in the field of dance and music. She has compiled, choreographed
a thematic presentation on Alwars, Nayanmars hymns to propagate
the spiritual awakening and knowledge of Vaishnavite and Savite
tradition.
She has passed dancing higher grade and music higher grade conducted
by the Government of Tamil Nadu. She has also got a merit scholarship
from the Tamil Nadu Government for which she toured from Kanyakumari
and Kashmir along with her guru Chandra Dandayuthapani Pillai.
She is presently working on ancient ragas codified gestures on
dance scriptures with mutilating in Abhinaya.
